Ski with Safety and Comfort in Mind Print E-mail
Written by Brian Karich

Brian Karich, Hibbing Parks and RecreationWhat a great and wonderful ski season we are having. The number of skiers using our Carey Lake Ski Trail System has hit an all time high.

It has been great to see and talk to so many of you on the trails.

Our goal for the Carey Lake Ski Trail System is to develop one of the best, safest and most user-friendly ski trail systems in Minnesota.

We all play a major role in achieving this goal — with planning and detailing from our office, excellent and safe grooming standards from our maintenance department, and you as the user with observational feedback.

COURTESY RULES FOR CAREY LAKE TRAILS Print E-mail
Written by Brian Karich

Enjoyable ski outings are for the most part determined by trail conditions.  However, a positive experience also has to do with skiers following the Trail Courtesy Rules.

CAREY LAKE COURTESY RULES:

  • Ski in the correct direction of the trail.  Trails are groomed for directional safety.
  • Do Not Litter.
  • Pets are not allowed on the trails.
  • Hiking is not allowed on the trails.
  • Herringbone on the flats to save the tracks for classical skiers.
  • Skate skiers - stay away from the tracks.
  • Passing - When another skier asks to pass, step to the side and let them by.
  • Passing Term to Use - "Track Please"
  • Remember - Ski Passes are required - wear your ski pass.

Please remind users of the Courtesy Rules.

Hibbing Nordic Ski Club Print E-mail

Welcome to the the Hibbing Nordic Ski Club Website!!!

This website is in its infancy and we need suggestions and support from ALL you nordic skiers who ski in the Hibbing area and surrounding communities. Please send your suggestions to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Website Audience

The intended audience for the website includes the:

  1. Youth Ski Program (both students and parents), sponsored by Hibbing Parks and Recreation. This program is aimed at kids ages 5-12 who want to develop their nordic skiing skills from stepping to the diagonal stride and skate skiing. This program lays the foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment for the sport. Many of the kids move on to the competitive nordic teams in high school and college. Parents are encouraged to participate during lessons.
  2. Ski Team - organized by Gerry and Lisa Wyland, this program is aimed at being a competitive group of nordic skiers ages 13-18. The hope is that this group will eventually be incorporated into a official nordic high school team. Currently, the nordic ski team competes in many of the statewide nordic competitions as a "club" team.
  3. The Nordic Ski Community in general - aimed at people of all ages who enjoy nordic skiing and would like a way of communicating and sharing the nordic experience by meeting other people with a common interest.

The Hibbing Nordic Ski Club was formed by the Hibbing Parks and Recreation Department at the request of Chelsea Davidson, a Hibbing High School student.  Parks and Recreation joined forces with Gerry Wyland and his wife Lisa.  Gerry, Lisa and Brian Karich (Hibbing Parks and Recreation) have the passion to add hours of volunteer service, to share their technical skill, advice and instruction for the club members.  In 2007 the informal group had 12 high school age students who met several times per week and participated in week-end ski adventures.
