PURPOSE AND PHILOSOPHY

The purpose of the Bareneloppet Youth Ski Festival is to be part of a super fun activity the leads to great physical activity and outdoor adventure.

REST, NUTRITION AND FLUIDS GUIDELINES

All participants should get a good night rest. Try to eat healthy carbohydrates on Saturday and have a good (fat free) carbohydate breakfast on Sunday morning. Four hours before the event drink 12 ounces of water.  A small snack and 6 ounces of water before the start of the festival will do a skier good.

EVENT PARKING

Skis IconParking is available at the Carey Lake Beach Parking Lot and the entrance trail that leads up to the festivity area. Parking is allowed on the west side entrance trail. Please so not park on the opposite side (east) of the road. Traffic will bottle neck if you do.

BIB NUMBERS

Bib numbers should be worn on the outside clothing. Both the front and back number should be clearly visible. All entrants must wear their bib number. No number, no participation.

ARRIVAL

Participants should arrive at location no later than 12:30 p.m. Please plan accordingly.

SKIER WARM-UP AREA

Maps will be placed in skiers informational packets.  Skiers should warm-up for 15 minutes before they report to the festival start area. Event personnel will make announcements and assist in warm-ups. Please do not disturb the start areas. Skiers are to stay to the far right of the trail before entering the warm-up area.

FESTIVAL START / FUNNEL AREA

The festvifa start / funnel area will be marked by a start banner and flagged starting chute. Skiers are to line-up in the starting shoot according to their bib number. Event personnel will assist with proper positioning. Participants will have a 30 second staggered start. Please see enclosed starting times.

PASSING ETIQUETTE (Know the Term "Track")

We hope to have the trails double tracked so that passing is not a problem. However, they may just be one track. If a skier wishes to pass a skier in front of them they should call out track nice and loud. Upon hearing the term track the skier being passed should slow down, staying in the track, and let the skier behind pass and get back into the track in front of them.

PARENT PARTICIPATION (5 & 6 Division Only)

Parents are allowed to ski child only in the 5 & 6 year old division. You will align yourself directly behind them in the starting chute. When they start you start. Please do not coach your child. This is their day of fun.

COURSE MARKINGS AND SAFETY PERSONNEL

The course will be marked clearly for all divisions. Direction personnel will make sure that no one takes the wrong turn. We will be prepared for emergency situations with safety personnel.

Each race will have a leader and trailer to ensure trail safety and etiquette.

As skiers cross the finish line they will be greeted by the Sons of Norway and have a medal draped around their head. All spectators must stay behind the orange line, yellow gate area.

FINISH LINE AND AWARDS AND MORE:

All participants will receive a beautiful event medallion. This medallion will be placed around the skier's neck as the cross the finish line.  The medallion represent the success of participating and completing  in the 2010 Hibbing Nordic Barneloppet Festival. At the end of the event all participants will receive refreshments and hot dogs, courtesy of the SONS OF NORWAY, MIDNATSOLEN. All skiers must keep their race bib on.

SPECTATING:

Areas to the east side of the starting chute and the east side main starting corridor may be used by spectators. Stay behind the orange line. Spectators are also encouraged to gather around the finish line. Please cheer everyone on. And give them a great, great big hand. Stay behind the orange line. Be ready with your cameras.

BON FIRE:

A bon fire in the festivity area. You will be able to stay nice and warm as you meet and greet your friends.

CANCELLATION PROCEDURE:

In the event of bad weather or unsuitable trail conditions the Barneloppet Ski Festival will be canceled. Emails will be forwarded to all race participants by 10:00 a.m. on race day and / or postings will be made on www.hibbingnordic.org.
